We see you- To the wives of those serving in Law Enforcement

Last night the news broke of local Sheriff Deputy who was shot and killed during a shootout. He leaves behind a wife and 3 young children. He was 42 years old. Another officer was also injured and life flighted to a Seattle hospital. (We live 1.5 hours from Seattle, incident was Around 2 hours from Seattle) My heart instantly broke for the families of these officers who were doing their job and in doing so their lives are forever changed.

I have several wonderful friends who their husbands are in law enforcement. Over the years I have listened and watched them in their roles. I have watched them grieve as other officers have lost their lives. I have listened, And read, as they shared stories of things happening to the man they love and chose to marry. I have watched as tears poured down faces of these wonderful women. They chose to marry an officer, so they carry the burden as well. The spouses of those who serve in Law Enforcement (and those in the military) are super heroes in my book. You wear an invisible cape just like your spouse.

Today and every day, I want you to know we see you. We see you as you grieve with each wife or husband that looses their spouse in the line of duty. You have a special bond with them that unites you. You are in the sisterhood that will never be broken. We see you as you go about your days loving those around you and serving them, but in the back of your thoughts is always in prayer for your spouse and others in law enforcement. Every time your spouse comes home from work you breathe a grateful prayer of thanksgiving that God brought him/her home to you once again. You enjoy every moment with your spouse even more so because they are in the first line of protection. You send them off to work every day so those in your community can be safe. You hear the hate spurred at those in Law Enforcement and your heart hurts. If only they knew your spouse they would feel different. Yes, there are bad apples in every profession, but because they are those sworn to protect the citizens of this great Country they are more in the limelight. The officers who make bad choices tend get the light put on them and the millions of other great officers tend to get forgotten at times. All of the Law Enforcement officers I know are men of integrity and honor. I know the choice to end a life is not one they take lightly. We see you as you talk about riots in other places against police officers and your heart hurts. Even if the shooting of a person was justified your spouse and all Law Enforcement have suddenly become villains instead of heroes. We hear you when YOU thank US for supporting you, your spouse and others in this position. WE ARE the GRATEFUL ones for your sacrifice. We see you as you stand faithfully by your spouse knowing the risk is great but worth it. We see you as you parent your children as a single parent many times because overtime is needed or your spouse is called away. We pray for you as you walk through the waters alone and ask God to give you wisdom and Strength. You have learned that being flexible is the only way to live life fully with your spouse. We see you sit alone at school events for your kids, But Always leaving the seat next to you empty just in case your spouse can pop in for a few minutes. We see you video each moment because replays are fun to watch later as a family and because this is how you have learned to live these moments. We see you as you play both spouses at times and do it with grace, even if you don’t think so. You never complain. Never have I heard one Law Enforcement spouse complain. We see you as you pour so much into those around you, even when you have other things on your mind. We see you as you cuddle your babies and go about life knowing it can change in a heartbeat. We see the loves you have, coffee, your grandkids/kids, spouse and above all God. We see these things and so many More.

We see the sacrifices you make and we are grateful beyond words. We pray God’s protection on your spouse and your family. We pray God’s protection and peace on all who serve in Law Enforcement. You are our heroes and deserve respect more than is given to you. Thank you for loving our communities enough to share the one you love most in this world with us. I want you to know we see you, we hear you and we are forever grateful.

We see the weight of extra worry on your shoulders right now with all that is going on. Let us be your Aaron and Hur In Exodus 17:12. We will hold you up to God when you are tired. The battle that is going on will come to an end. You will make it through. We will spend time praying for you and encouraging you because we see you. We see your families and kids as well and the sacrifices they make. More importantly than us seeing you is the God of the universe seeing you. We are praying His protection around your spouse, your kids and you. Thank you for serving. We are grateful beyond anything words can express.

As I write it was a very hard few days in our country. Things happened that should’ve not happened. I have struggled with all that occurred and sadness over peaceful protests turning into people loosing their lives. It was a mark on our nation that shouldn’t have been. It will set back the progress that was made in the last 4 years. It didn’t further our cause, but damage it. In protests like this there are always a few bad apples that ruin it for everyone. Some protests start out as protests and turn into riots like we saw last year. I believe that many of those who started to protest did so with genuine hearts, but then others took it to an extent that it didn’t need to be. A few days ago people gathered to support our President and then it turned ugly. A few people made wrong choices and made the rest look like the very type of people we disagreed with in 2020. Using our voice to make an impact is acceptable. Using it to destroy is not acceptable, that is what the enemy does. I believe 99.9 % of the people that were there were there for a right reason. I believe their hearts were in the right spot. The other .1 % made the others look bad and that is very disheartening to me.

Over the past 4 years incredible things have happened. I know that President Trump has done what he set out to do. He has been a good President for our economy and for our nation. He has had to deal with stuff that no other President in our time has had to figure out. He has been a great President that worked to help the Conservative values. He has surrounded himself with Godly men and women who have had an impact on not just this President, but our nation as well. I know that God put him in office for a reason, one big one is what he has done for Pro life movement. He loves and respects our country and that means a lot to me. I can say many other things, but will leave it at that. What saddens me, however, is that many have looked at President Trump with the same way that many looked at President Obama, as the Messiah or great Savior of our country. The very thing we hated during the Obama years is one thing many Conservatives have done during these last 4 years. God only wants us to worship Him and Him alone. He says in Isaiah 42:8 “ “I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another…” Worshiping anyone other than God is a sin. He says that we are not to worship anyone other than Him. Respect and put your support behind the one God puts in office, but don’t worship. Pray and honor him. Get excited about what he is doing, but also keep the balance. Spending more time praising the President and less time praising God will show where your heart is.

Over and over again in Scripture the people wanted something “better”, so God gave them what they wanted when he got tired of their complaining. In the end it wasn’t truly what they wanted, but God still showed mercy. He still saved His people even though it wasn’t His mess, but because of His great love He showed compassion. Most Christians did not vote for the incoming President because of the agenda he has planned. God’s people were put in captivity many times, but God had a plan. I love all the “ but God” references throughout my Bible. With all that has been mentioned about the next 4 years, we may feel at times as though we are in those ancient cities bound by the chains of captivity. BUT GOD always has a plan, even when we can’t see what He is doing. Things are about to get tough. Tougher than they probably ever have been in our country. This is where diamonds are made. Diamonds are made under extreme pressure. What we do and say in the next days, weeks, and 4 years will make a difference. We can choose to be negative and hateful or we can choose to be the total opposite. We can choose to show grace, mercy, love and self control. When we choose to show those things we will mirror Christ’s example. We can be the diamonds in a dark world that will shine. We will be an example that even if things are not going our way, we can still have integrity. When we don’t know what to do, we can always look to the example of our Savior. He knew when to speak and when not to. He showed wisdom and many times self control all for love’s sake.

As heavy as our hearts have been, we know where to go. I know there will be days when we are scared. There are days we will fearful. That is part of us being human. Jesus wants us to come to Him and lay our burdens at His feet. He knows what is going on and will give us what we need to make it through. We get to be His instruments in a way we may not have been before. I always wanted to play the flute so that gets me extra excited. God alone is our refuge. He’s got us in His hands and no one and nothing can take us from His hand, not even a political agenda. Take time to really pray, read His word, and rest in Him. Then put your armor on and get ready for what is coming. If you have kids at home teach them the same things. I am working on this with my own kids. Teach them to stand up for what is right, but also to show love and mercy. Parents these days are so busy spewing hate that their kids pick up on it and spew it back to others in school that don’t agree with them. Kids are becoming bullies because of politics and that saddens me, but they have learned it at home. Teach them how to effectively talk to those they encounter. Colossians 4:6 “ Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”

God didn’t put us each here for this time by accident. We were put in this season of our nation for a reason. Like Esther in the Bible, we were put here for this time. God is wanting to use us Christians, but are we truly ready to be used for him? Are our hearts ready to listen to what God is saying to us, or are they all clogged up by hate and sin. God says in II Chronicles 7:14 “ If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”. We are so full of pride and anger right now that we can’t hear what God is saying. Someone recently told me that we don’t deserve another 4 years of a Trump administration. I was taken aback by that but realized she was right. We have become like the ones we disagree with. We are not humble. As Christians we need to be falling on our knees begging God for mercy for the next season in our country. We need to stop throwing stones and figure out how to win others for Christ. He is the only hope we have. Over and over again throughout scripture God tells us not to fear. He also reminds us to meditate on His Word because that is where the change will begin. Change for our country doesn’t begin with the other side, or this Political Party or that one, it begins with us. It begins with Christians who truly love Jesus. We have to draw closer to Jesus as we walk through the times ahead. We know that God is in control. When others have lost hope, and with the agenda ahead they will, we have the answer and that is Jesus. He made you and I for this moment. That is scary wrapped in exciting wrapping paper. Each generation has had people that have made a lasting impact, this is our time to shine for Jesus. Getting our hearts ready now will prepare us for what lies ahead. Once you spend some major time in the Bible, look up other famous Christians who were put under pressure. Learn what made them be able to stand and make the impact they did. For my Bible Reading this year I am using the “American Woman’s Bible”. It has stories and quotes of women throughout our nation’s history that made an impact. Take a break from Social media and get to know the people in our past that followed Jesus and were world changers. Encourage your kids to read those kind of books as well. More importantly get to know Jesus better. Pray for fellow believers as well. We all need to be prayer warriors. We have a long journey ahead of us and if we are prepared we can come out of it stronger than we were at the beginning. We will be able to look back and see God’s hand in each moment and realize that He really did make us for these days we are living in. We were made for such a time as this.
